As the wave of AI sweeps across the world, repetitive skills are rapidly replaced, and mechanical effort gradually loses its edge. A deeply thought-provoking question lies before every teenager:
How can we avoid being replaced in the AI era?
The answer may lie in two simple words: passion.
It cannot be replicated by algorithms, nor simulated by programs. It is the most unique mark of one’s life—and the most valuable form of competitiveness in the age of AI.
At Sendelta, education goes far beyond the instillation of knowledge. We begin with curiosity about the world, grow through deep exploration of learning, and dedicate ourselves to protecting every sincere passion. Supported by a rigorous academic system and enriched by diverse growth platforms, we walk alongside each student as they discover their passion, sharpen their thinking, and build their beliefs. We empower them to break through their limits in practice and bravely head toward their own future.
The protagonist of this episode of New Generation Teens — Gabriel — embodies the power of such passion with his actions.
From Hong Kong to Sendelta, he has transformed from a passive high achiever into an active dream-chaser. Today, he has not only received a full scholarship from HKUST, but also offers from top universities including UCL and UCSD. More importantly, he has grown into a responsible elder brother. At Sendelta, he is never alone on his journey to pursue his dreams.
His two younger brothers later followed him to Sendelta. During their years studying together, the three brothers ran side by side on the football field, sang aloud in the choir, and talked late into the night about their studies and future. They witnessed each other’s growth and became the most reliable support in one another’s youth.
This is more than a story of personal transformation. It is the story of a young man who, amid the tides of the times, anchors himself—and his beloved family—with passion.
Embracing Multiple Identities: Thriving in
Balance Between Passion and Responsibility
Gabriel
Compared with my study and life in Hong Kong, Sendelta has offered me a completely different space for growth. Here, I can truly choose who I want to be, explore freely and plan my own path. At the same time, the school provides support and platforms for every passion and choice, allowing me to dare to try, break through, and fully unlock my unlimited potential.
As president of Burning Vocal, president of Money Lover Business Club, and conductor of Half Diminished 7th Choir, Gabriel moves seamlessly between these three roles. He keeps moving forward, gradually striking a balance between passion and responsibility, and making his youth shine brightly through diverse experiences.
“At first, I was just an ordinary member of Burning Vocal. When I joined the Top 10 Singers Competition, all I cared about was choosing the right song and showing my best on stage. But when I took over as president, my perspective changed completely. I no longer focused only on myself; instead, I began to think about how to involve more students, how to make the competition fairer, how to design more creative activities, and how to let more people on campus feel the charm and power of music.
To me, the competition is never just about picking winners. It is about helping every participant hold onto their love for singing, and making music a warm, healing part of their youth.”
With this vision, Gabriel carefully refined every detail of the Top 10 Singers Competition — from revising the rules and promoting the event to on-site coordination. With the joint efforts of his team, he ran two successful, well‑organized competitions that became some of the most influential cultural events on campus.
Beyond music, business has been a long-standing passion of Gabriel’s. In G2, he joined the Business Club and took an active part in various business simulation competitions. Through constant negotiation, decision-making and teamwork, he gained a strong sense of achievement and grew rapidly.
After becoming club president, he actively reached out to external resources and led members in professional courses, mock auctions, presentations and other core activities. Using a model of “structured courses + gamified training + real competitions”, he guided members from inexperienced beginners to confident, capable practitioners.
As leader of two different five-star clubs, Gabriel developed his own unique approach to leadership through practice.
“Burning Vocal is an art-based club. Its core is to nurture passion, and the most important thing is to create a free and inclusive atmosphere. I set basic rules, and within those principles, I let everyone communicate comfortably and sing freely.”
The Business Club, by contrast, is more academic and professional.“Its focus is developing communication and logical thinking. We often use games, workshops and case studies to exchange ideas and explore the business world together.”
“Becoming a club president made me much more mature and steady. The most important lesson I learned was how to delegate and share responsibilities. For instance, I assigned attendance tasks to the vice-president and let each member take charge of different areas, so everyone could play to their strengths.
I truly learned that if you don’t lead a team well, you will end up overworking yourself. Only by relying on others and working together can we achieve better results. When members break the rules, I talk to them privately, listen patiently, and offer sincere advice.”
As conductor of the Half Diminished 7th Choir, Gabriel also faced difficult challenges.
“As competitions approached, everyone was overwhelmed by heavy schoolwork. Their motivation for rehearsals dropped, and sometimes they just went through the motions. The team atmosphere became low and tense.”
Instead of criticizing harshly, he first spoke with the section leaders to understand the pressure and struggles of the members, then let the section leaders communicate heart-to-heart with the choir. In this way, he eased everyone’s anxiety.
“After that, everyone regained their energy, adjusted their attitude, and devoted themselves to practice. At that moment, I realized real leadership is not giving orders. It is listening with care, communicating sincerely, uniting the team, and moving forward toward a common goal.”
Hard work pays off.
Burning Vocal and Money Lover Business Club were both awarded Five-Star Clubs at Sendelta.
In the recently concluded 2026 Hong Kong Inter-school Choral Festival (HKICF), Half Diminished 7th Choir was the only mainland secondary school to compete. It won the Bronze Award in the Advanced Group, showcasing the confidence and talent of mainland students through song.
From a Transfer Student to a Recipient
of Offers from Multiple Top Universities
Widely recognized as a “master of time management” on campus, Gabriel owes his academic efficiency to intense focus and careful planning. He treasures every minute in class, staying fully engaged to absorb knowledge effectively, which greatly reduces the need for extra review after class.
During exam periods, he allocates his energy wisely, entrusting club activities to his teammates so he can focus on revision. In non-exam seasons, he consolidates his foundations by making full use of in-class time and after-school consultations. Every teacher at Sendelta is exceptionally patient, always ready to answer his questions and support his academic journey.
In his academic studies, Ms. Sharoon’s Biology classes and Ms. Lily’s Economics classes often transcend disciplinary boundaries, using engaging methods to help Gabriel grasp complex concepts. Ms. Rachel, his Physics teacher, noticed gaps in his understanding and offered him one-on-one guidance, reviewing each chapter patiently. Ms. Doris brought knowledge to life by connecting it with real‑world cases. Mr. Tom not only taught him to be punctual and responsible for deadlines but also inspired him with valuable lessons in integrity and interpersonal skills.
Supported by this inspiring learning environment, Gabriel achieved an outstanding predicted grade of four A*s, laying a solid foundation for his applications to top universities in the UK, Hong Kong, and the US.
In recent years, admission to universities in Hong Kong has grown increasingly competitive. The HKUST Business School, ranked among the best in Asia, has long been a dream destination for countless business-minded students. Faced with fierce competition, Gabriel spared no effort in preparing his application.
Looking back on his HKUST interview, he believes his greatest strength was his courage to express himself. During the online assessment, without being able to read the examiners’ facial expressions, he had to analyze issues using solid professional knowledge — a skill built entirely on daily accumulation.
“The question I received was to analyze the differences between two social media platforms. I have been passionate about business since childhood and had a clear career direction, so I kept observing and reflecting in my daily life.”
Furthermore, he cleverly combined his passion for music with business in his personal statement and extracurricular profile: interning at a music company, selling concert merchandise, running social media accounts, and more.
“In my personal statement, I deeply integrated my hobbies with my intended major, presenting a unique perspective where music and business intersect.”
Meanwhile, Tiffany, the school’s university counseling teacher, offered him tremendous support. She guided him through the entire application process, answered every question with great care, and helped him fully highlight his strengths so that he could avoid detours in his applications.
From long-term academic development and customized application strategies to targeted pre-application coaching, Sendelta’s Oxbridge & HK Top 3 Program provides consistent support for students aiming at world-leading universities, serving as Gabriel’s strongest backing on his path to higher education.
Beyond remarkable academic progress, Gabriel has also achieved a qualitative leap in personal abilities.
“I used to be casual and even somewhat lazy. It was my head teacher, Ms. Joyce, who encouraged and guided me step by step to grow.”
He admitted that when he struggled to balance study and club activities, Ms. Joyce taught him to prioritize tasks and manage his life wisely, further improving his time-management skills.
“I often joke with my classmates that she is like a mother to our whole class, quietly looking after us.”
In addition, Ms. Sharon from the choir always considered things from his perspective and encouraged him to persevere and dare to try. Ms. Sharon witnessed every step of his growth, offered him constant trust and support, and provided him with many opportunities to participate in and manage team affairs. Through these experiences, he kept learning, broke through his limits, and grew more confident and composed.
Three Brothers Studying Together at Sendelta:
Love and Growth, Everlasting
Gabriel
Today, Gabriel, filled with gains and ideals, is about to graduate from Sendelta and head to university far away; his two younger brothers have also grown up separately, advancing to the 9th and 10th grades. They take over the baton from their elder brother and continue to write their youth on the campus of Sendelta.
Three teenagers with distinct personalities accompany and shape each other on this campus. Henry loves football and is a key player on the school football team, sweating freely on the field; inspired by him, Gabriel also joined the football team, running on the green pitch and winning the championship with his teammates in the campus football match. Gabriel loves singing and often improvises songs with Michael at home; after joining the Half Diminished 7th Choir, Michael followed closely, standing beside his brother and expressing their youthful thoughts through song. In early February this year, the two brothers represented Sendelta’s Half Diminished 7th Choir to compete in Hong Kong together. Passion is quietly passed on and echoed between the brothers; they each pursue their dreams, yet also see a better version of themselves in each other’s choices.
Beyond walking side by side in extracurricular life, Gabriel also guides his younger brothers in their studies and future planning. He often reminds them: GPA is the premise for university applications, and no matter how rich the extracurricular activities are, they must not shake the foundation of their studies. Whenever his younger brothers encounter confusion in course selection or activities, he always analyzes patiently and gives suggestions. With his three years of exploration, he has paved a clearer path for his younger brothers.
They each chase their dreams and shine for each other. At Sendelta, they are more than classmates—they are the most firm companions on each other’s growth journey. The three years that the three brothers have studied together at Sendelta are not only a warm continuation of family affection, but also a vivid testimony to love and growth. From one person’s choice to three people’s pursuit, this story continues—as Sendelta believes, love and growth are everlasting.
